Welcome to the final week of our Christmas Sing series! Last time, we sung O Come All Ye Faithful. Our hope is that everyone would come to Jesus, back to where we belong.
For this final week of this Christmas Sing series, we will focus on the reason why Jesus came. The hymn Because He Lives perfectly expresses this reason. It was because he came that we can have life everlasting. Jesus brought with him salvation. The scriptures say the following.
And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
Luke 2:8-11 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
John 3:16-17 ESV
Finally, we would have a bridge to link us back to God. As we celebrate the Christmas season, let us keep in mind why Jesus came. Let’s share the story with our children as many times as we can, so they will know that salvation has come, hope is here, and that it is here for them. Here are some of the lyrics of the original hymn Because He Lives.
God sent His son, they called Him Jesus
He came to love, heal and forgive
He lived and died to buy my pardon
An empty grave is there to prove my savior lives
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow
Because He lives, all fear is gone
Because I know He holds the future
And life is worth the living, just because He lives
In our picture, you see the cross, which stands as a symbol for what Jesus did for us, a beacon of light for all those who believe. To listen to various renditions of the song Because He Lives, click here.
