Where Is Your Eye?

January 28, 2019 Administrator

Welcome to week 3 in our Where Is series.  Last week, we focused on the hair and shared Matthew 10:30 ERV which said, “God even knows how many hairs are on your head.” This scripture reminds us that God cares for us very much.  He cares for us so much that he knows the smallest detail about us. This week, we are sharing a new focus and scripture. Are you ready? Let’s get started.

Lesson Focus

The eye

The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light. Matthew 6:22 ESV

Children need to know that we must show care in what we choose to see with our eyes. What we see goes into our minds and is shown through our actions. Because we want to live a life that is pleasing to God, we want to see, watch, or look at things that will please God. God is the Light, and we want the light of God to fill our whole body.

How to Execute the Lesson

You (to child): Where is your eye?  Can you point to it?

*Child points (If they cannot point, you point or help them feel it.)

You: There it is! Did you know that it is important that we are careful about what we see, watch, or look at with our eyes? Matthew 6:22 says, “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light.” We want to have healthy spiritual bodies. To have healthy spiritual bodies full of light, we must stay connected to the one that is the Light. God is the Light. With his guidance, we will know what to see, watch, or look at in our lives, so we can remain full of His light.  Thus, our goal is to fill ourselves with the things of God like reading God’s word.  God created you to be his child, and it is important that you look like his child. Yet, it starts with one of the smallest actions, what we see with our eye.  Let’s be careful to see the things of God.

Throughout the week, continuously ask your child to point to their eyes, other people’s eyes, and pictures of eyes, followed by the scripture and explanation.  By the end of the week, we want their ears to pique because they will know that that scripture coordinates with a certain part of the body, and if they are able, they will start saying the scripture with you. As a bonus, enjoy the coloring sheet from CCE Contributor and Illustrator Jack Foster. In the picture, we see a little boy watching and using the lamp to see what he needs to see. Fill your eyes with the light of God.
