Welcome to week 7 in our Where Is series. In our previous session, we focused on the heart and shared Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (KJV). We learned that it is important to say good words to others. When we say good words to others, we become a blessing to them because we help them feel good, stronger, and more confident. This week, we are sharing a new focus and scripture. Are you ready? Let’s get started.
Lift up your hands to the holy place and bless the Lord! Psalm 134:2 ESV
It is important that we learn to praise God. Praising God shows that we appreciate Him for who He is, we thank Him for creating us, and we thank Him for blessing us with what we have in this world. All good things come from God. Just as we clap and lift our hands in joy for our favorite songs, TV shows, and movies, we should do it even more for God. He is Creator of all and giver of good gifts. Lift your hands and praise Him!
How to Execute the Lesson
You (to child): Where is your hand? Can you point to it?
*Child points (If they cannot point, you point or help them feel it.)
You: There it is! Did you know that it is important that we lift our hands in praise and worship to God? Psalm 134:2 says, “Lift up your hands to the holy place and bless the Lord!” When we lift our hands to God in praise and worship, we are thanking God for all He is and all He has done for us. Nothing could be without God, so it is important that we remember this and joyfully lift our hands in praise and worship to Him.
Throughout the week, continuously ask your child to point to their hand, other people’s hands, and pictures of hands followed by the scripture and explanation. By the end of the week, we want their ears to pique because they will know that that scripture coordinates with a certain part of the body, and if they are able, they will start saying the scripture with you. As a bonus, enjoy the coloring sheet from CCE Contributor and Illustrator Jack Foster. In the picture, we see children lifting their hands in praise and worship while the music plays.
