There is a phrase you may have heard before. “You’re either in, or you’re out.” That is how we should look at our walk with God. Revelation 3:16 tells us, “So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spit you out of My mouth.” When it comes to being a Christian, there is no middle ground. We have to choose a side: the world or Christ. God wants all of us not half or part of us. Jesus did not give half or part of himself as a sacrifice for our sins. Jesus gave all of himself when he died on the cross.
Jesus tells us in Luke 17:32 to “Remember Lot’s wife.” Genesis 19:1-3, 12-26 tells us about the fate of Lot’s wife. Lot and his family lived in a very evil place named Sodom. It was so evil that God sent His angels to destroy it. The angels told Lot to gather his family and leave the city or else they would be swept away when the city was destroyed. Once they were brought out of the city, the angels instructed them to “Run for your lives! And don’t look back or stop anywhere in the valley!” (Genesis 19:17). “But Lot’s wife looked back as she was following behind him, and she turned into a pillar of salt.” (Genesis 19:26). She could not let go. Part of her was still attached to Sodom. Because of her disobedience, she was turned into a pillar of salt.
There is going to come a time in your life when you may have to walk away from friends, family, bad habits, or even a place like where Lot and his family lived. If these things are a bad influence or pulling you in a direction away from God, you will have to let those things go. It’s important to keep moving forward in your walk with God because looking back could cause you to risk your eternal life in the kingdom of heaven.
