Is This You?
Do you remember your mom or dad asking you to do something, but you did what you wanted instead? Maybe, you were asked to wash the dishes, sweep the floor, or fold your clothes. Maybe, you were asked to do your homework before watching television or going outside. When you choose not to do what is asked by your parents or teachers, it is being disobedient and wrong.
Scripture Summary: Jonah 1
In the Bible, the story of Jonah relays the consequences of disobedience. God told Jonah to go to a city to preach the word of God to let the people know that what they were doing was wrong. Jonah did not want to do this. He chose to run from God. Because Jonah ran, got on a ship that was going to another city, a storm came upon Jonah and the other men who were on the ship. God allowed the storm to get worse and the people were afraid. The people threw Jonah into the sea and God made a huge fish come and swallow Jonah. He stayed in the belly of the fish for three days and three nights.
What You Need To Know
If Jonah were obedient to God, none of these things would have happened to him. God had to get Jonah’s attention. Also, this lesson taught Jonah to not run away from God. You cannot run away from God and expect to get away with it. God will catch your attention and allow things to happen to you until you are obedient to what He has told you to do.
Think about this. When you do not do what you are told by your mom or dad, what punishments do you get? Maybe, you are not allowed to watch television, you are not able to go over to your friend’s house, or your phone is taken. When God asks you to do His will, be obedient to what He tells you. Instead of getting punished for being disobedient, you will get rewarded for being obedient.
