Today, Little Mike was going to have a great day! He was at home, and his mom said that he could play all day.

Little Mike went to his room and pulled out all his toys. The rule was that if you take out one toy put the other toy back. Before he knew it, his whole room was a mess. He could not walk anywhere in his room. “Uh oh!” Little Mike thought. “I need to find another place to play.”

Little Mike went to the living room. He took his ball with him. His puppy Buttons was in the living room. When Buttons saw the ball, he thought Little Mike wanted to play. What do you think happened?

Buttons jump toward Little Mike. Little Mike fell back, and accidentally, hit a table. The lamp fell with a crash. “Uh oh!” Little Mike thought. “I’m not supposed to play in the living room. I wonder if I can tell mom Buttons did it.” Meanwhile, Little Mike walked to the kitchen.

When Little Mike arrived in the kitchen, he decided to fix himself a snack. He was not supposed to do this by himself. He got on a stool and opened the refrigerator. He pulled out a carton of milk, and he went to the pantry to get some cookies. He placed his favorite cup on the table. Then, he opened the milk and tried to pour it into his cup. Milk spilled everywhere. Little Mike put the milk carton down and ran to his room and hid under the pile of toys on the floor.

“Little Mike,” his mom called.

Little Mike peeked from under the toys to see his mom. “Hi, Mom.”

“Little Mike, I…”

“I know. I’m sorry, Mom. I did it,” he said sadly. “I did not mean for this to happen. I just wanted to play and eat a snack.”

“I understand Little Mike, but your wrong actions led to this. What are you going to do about it?”

Little Mike crawled from underneath the toys and slowly started placing the toys back in his toy box. His mom helped him clean up the broken lamp, and he wiped up the spilled milk.

When he finished cleaning the milk off the floor, he looked at Buttons and said, “Buttons, we are never doing this again.”

  1. What happened in the story?

  2. Who did wrong, Little Mike or Buttons?

  3. What should Little Mike have done?

What did we learn?

  1. Following the rules even if it is hard. If you don’t follow the rules, trouble will happen.

  2. It’s important to tell the truth about what we do wrong. When we do, we will learn a good lesson.
